Bear Valley offers limitless year round recreational opportunities.

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding: Bear Valley offers skiing & snowboarding on nearly 1300 acres of naturally crafted terrain for all ability levels at the Bear Valley Mountain Resort. 1900’ vertical feet descend from an 8500” summit with 30’ average annual snowfall and over 67 runs. Mountain services include ski/board lessons for ages 4+, equipment rentals, repair, retail, child care, a food court, espresso bar and the Monte Wolfe Saloon, featuring a new 1200 sf canyon view sundeck complete with beverages and appetizers served daily. On-hill amenities include a new Kaser carpet lift, half-pipe, three terrain parks, free guided tours and 30% snowmaking coverage.

Cross Country Skiing: Bear Valley lies in the heart of the Central Sierra between the Mokelumne and Carson Iceberg Wilderness Areas.  At Bear Valley Cross Country you will enjoy an extensive trail system of over 3,000 acres.  Amenities include 35 trails carefully groomed for track and skate skiing and snowshoeing, the Meadow Cafe, a complete rental, demo and retail facility, 4 Trailside Huts including the new Osborne Ridge Hut, picnic tables, park benches, two kids' trails, a new waxing hut, groomed downhill practice area and a sledding/tubing facility.  Trails are open from 9am to 4:30pm daily.  The elevation of 7,000 feet to 7,800 feet guarantees first to open (usually mid November) and last to close (usually mid April) status among Sierra cross country centers.

Snowmobiling: Bear Valley Snowmobile is the place to rent a snowmobile by the hour to enjoy the beautiful groomed trails of Stanislaus Forest.  Enjoy scenic views of Lake Alpine, Spicer Reservoir and many other points of interest.  We are also an authorized Ski-Doo dealership to handle all your snowmobiling sales and service needs.   Our summer hours are M-F 9-5, Sat 10-2.  When there is snow on the ground we are there seven days a week 9-5.

Snowshoeing and Snowplay: The sport of snowshoeing has gained tremendous popularity in the last few years. Lightweight snowshoes and the discovery of cross country ski trails for snowshoers have contributed to this fun winter adventure. BVCC carries snowshoes in a variety of lightweight and sport sizes. No special shoes are necessary and this is definitely fun for everyone!

Kayaking: With 6 lakes within 12 miles of Bear Valley, the flatwater kayaking opportunities are incredible. These are some of the most beautiful high alpine lakes in the Sierra Nevada. You can bring your kayak and spend a day on Lake Alpine, or visit the Bear Valley Adventure Co. to rent kayaks and canoes during the summer months. Other recreational paddling destinations nearby include Spicer Reservoir and Union & Utica Reservoirs. Visit scenic4.org for more information on these lakes. You won't want to miss spending a day on the water!

Mountain Biking: Bear Valley is a peddler’s paradise.  Road riders and mountain bikers will enjoy spectacular vistas and challenging terrain.  Be sure to bring your camera to record stunning wildflowers and beautiful backdrops. Get all the info you need to plan your ride at the Bear Valley Adventure Co.

Hiking & Backpacking: The Calaveras Ranger District maintains 279 miles of hiking trails (143 in Wilderness, 136 non-Wilderness), offering anything from short, easy day hikes to strenuous, multi-day backpacking opportunities. Most of these trails are at high elevation (above 6,000 feet) and are accessible only during the summer and early fall months.

Rock Climbing: The Calaveras Ranger District contains almost unlimited rock climbing opportunities including vertical granite outcrops as well as boulder fields perfect for rock hopping (bouldering) and scrambling. Lessons are available at Mountain Adventure Seminars.

Fishing: Bear Valley offers excellent fly-fishing and lake fishing.  With beautiful streams, rivers, four reservoirs, and a multitude of alpine lakes located in close proximity to Bear Valley Village an angler has endless options of shoreline, motorboat, kayak, canoe, and inflatable craft accessible fishing. Fishing licenses, supplies, bait and tackle are all available at Lake Alpine and Bear Valley Village.

Tennis: You'll find four beautiful new USTA standard courts located across from the Village on the south side of Highway 4 at the ungated entrance to Grizzly Field. Interested tennis players should go to Bear Valley Adventure Company for more information, to register, pay, and pick up a key to the tennis courts. Take advantage of this exciting new addition to all Bear Valley has to offer this summer!
